Security operatives in Katsina arrested 26 suspects during an intelligence-led overnight raid targeting criminal hideouts, recovering weapons, ammunition, suspected drugs and stolen phones.

KATSINA, Nigeria – A major security operation by the Katsina State Police Command has led to the arrest of 26 suspected social miscreants during an overnight raid aimed at restoring law and order in the state capital.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday in Katsina.

According to him, the suspects were arrested in the early hours of April 14 during an intelligence-driven security raid targeting identified criminal hideouts and black spots across the Katsina metropolis.

“The operation, led by the Officer-in-Charge of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, focused on dismantling gangs linked to public disturbances and unlawful activities,” he said.

Police said the suspects were believed to be involved in offences ranging from gang-related crimes to acts of public nuisance. Recovered items during the operation included live ammunition, a sword, two cutlasses, a knife, sticks, a saw and six suspected stolen mobile phones.

Other exhibits seized were substances suspected to be Indian hemp, 500 Exol tablets and a pair of military camouflage shirts.

Sadiq-Aliyu confirmed that all 26 suspects had been charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, commended the operatives for the successful raid and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the security crackdown on criminal elements across the state.

The commissioner also urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen crime prevention efforts and improve public safety.

Also on April 14, Governor Dikko Radda signed an executive order banning thuggery, popularly known as Kauraye and Sara-suka, across the Katsina metropolis as part of broader security measures.
