The Supreme Court has fixed April 22 for an accelerated hearing in the ADC leadership dispute involving David Mark and Nafiu Bala.
Abuja, Nigeria – The Supreme Court of Nigeria has fixed April 22 for the accelerated hearing of an appeal filed by David Mark, National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in the ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
The date was set by a five-member panel of justices led by Lawal Garba after all parties adopted their legal processes.
In the appeal marked SC/CV/180/2026, Mark is seeking an order to stay the execution of the March 12 judgment of the Court of Appeal.
The appellate court had dismissed Mark’s earlier appeal, upholding objections raised by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former deputy national chairman of the party.
The dispute stems from a September 4, 2025 ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, which declined to grant injunctive reliefs sought in an ex-parte application filed by Gombe.
Dissatisfied with that decision, Mark approached the Court of Appeal, but his case was struck out by a three-member panel led by Uchechukwu Onyemenam.
The appellate court held that the appeal was incompetent, agreeing with Gombe’s legal team, led by Luka Musa Haruna (SAN), that the issues raised were not grounded in the original ruling of the trial court.
Mark has now escalated the matter to the Supreme Court, seeking relief and a reversal of the lower court decisions.
The upcoming hearing is expected to be pivotal in resolving the ADC leadership crisis, which has triggered multiple legal battles and internal divisions within the party.
