A civil society group has urged residents of Borno and Yobe to support the military in the fight against terrorism, warning of severe economic consequences.
A North-East-based civil society organisation, Peace, Security Focus Group, has called on residents of Borno State and Yobe State to actively support efforts to defeat terrorism in the region.
The group’s convener, Ismail Mohammed, stressed that the fight against insurgency cannot be left solely to security forces.
He warned that terrorist groups such as Boko Haram often operate within communities, exploiting fear and local networks to carry out attacks.
“This is a fight we cannot leave solely to the military. Residents must take ownership to reclaim their communities,” he said.
Mohammed urged residents to collaborate with the Armed Forces of Nigeria, noting that effective counter-terrorism efforts depend heavily on local intelligence and cooperation.
He emphasised the importance of reporting suspicious activities, supporting vigilance groups, and assisting security agencies with credible information.
The group warned that continued insecurity poses a serious threat to economic recovery in the North-East.
According to Mohammed, repeated attacks disrupt farming, trade, and small businesses, undermining livelihoods and development in affected communities.
He called for unity among residents, stressing that collective action is essential to securing lives, protecting businesses, and ensuring long-term stability.
“Your information saves lives, but silence only empowers the enemy,” he added.
