President Bola Tinubu begins a historic state visit to the United Kingdom, aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and securing major investment agreements.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, for a historic state visit to the United Kingdom, accompanied by the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

The visit is at the invitation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who will host the Nigerian leader at Windsor Castle from March 18 to March 19.

According to the State House, this marks the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years and the first time a Nigerian president will be hosted by a British monarch at Windsor Castle.

The visit is expected to deepen longstanding diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between both countries.

During the visit, President Tinubu and his wife will attend a special exhibition from the Royal Collection highlighting historical ties with Nigeria.

Both leaders will also hold private discussions and engage with organisations involved in interfaith dialogue.

A state banquet will be hosted in honour of the Nigerian delegation.

President Tinubu is also scheduled to meet with UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, at 10 Downing Street.

The meeting is expected to culminate in the signing of multiple agreements covering trade, investment, defence and cultural cooperation.

A key highlight of the visit will be the signing of a £746 million financing agreement between UK Export Finance (UKEF), the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and the Federal Ministry of Finance.

The deal will support the rehabilitation of the Lagos Port Complex (Apapa Quays) and the Tin Can Island Port Complex, key maritime infrastructure critical to Nigeria’s trade sector.

The President will also attend the Nigerian Modernism exhibition and a reception with Nigerian and British business leaders, as well as members of the diaspora community.

Members of the President’s delegation include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, Minister of Finance Wale Edun, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, among other top government officials.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the visit.
