President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the construction of the ₦334 billion Kano–Kongolom Road project, a major infrastructure development aimed at enhancing economic activities across the North-West region.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf described the approval as a “historic breakthrough” that would accelerate development and strengthen regional trade.
The 132-kilometre road will be built as a three-lane concrete carriageway equipped with solar-powered street lights and CCTV systems to improve safety and monitoring.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, Yusuf said the project would significantly boost trade, agriculture and industry while creating employment opportunities.
According to him, the Kano–Kongolom corridor connects Kano with Jigawa State and Katsina State, making it a strategic economic route and an important gateway for regional commerce and agricultural distribution.
Yusuf said the approval demonstrates Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development in Kano State and the wider North-West.
“This project will open new economic frontiers for farmers, traders and transporters, reducing travel time and improving safety,” the governor said.
He also commended David Umahi, the Minister of Works, for prioritising the project.
The governor assured that the Kano State Government would cooperate fully with contractors to ensure smooth execution and timely completion.
He added that the road project aligns with the administration’s development priorities aimed at improving the living standards of residents.
“This is the result of our Kano First Agenda working through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Yusuf said.
