The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has commended Governor Peter Mbah for his strong support to security agencies in Enugu State, pledging deeper cooperation to sustain peace and stability.
Aneke made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House, Enugu, on Thursday, as part of his working tour of the state following his elevation by President Bola Tinubu.
The Air Force chief praised the Enugu State Government for its consistent backing of the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies, noting that the collaboration had significantly improved operational effectiveness and enhanced public safety.
“Enugu State and the Nigerian Air Force have enjoyed a long-standing partnership. We deeply appreciate the support your administration has given to us.
“We are here with open arms to deepen collaboration so that Enugu remains safe and continues to grow as a thriving business hub.
“I am fully at your service to ensure that the people of Enugu continue to enjoy peace and security,” Aneke said.
The CAS also applauded the pace of development under Governor Mbah’s administration, describing him as “a new sheriff in town” and commending the quality of leadership driving the state’s transformation.
He said the visible changes in Enugu were evident even before landing, stressing that the state had undergone remarkable transformation compared to his previous visits.
“We are here because of the transformational and visionary leadership you are giving to this state. Even from the air, what I saw today is not what I saw the last time I visited Enugu.
“I am proud to have someone like you as governor in my state, and I am here to work with you to achieve the purpose of government,” he added.
Responding, Governor Mbah described Aneke as a worthy son of Enugu State who had distinguished himself in national service.
“When a son has discharged his duty with honour and excellence, both in career and service to the nation, it is only fitting to welcome him with pride. We are extremely proud of you,” the governor said.
Mbah recalled Aneke’s swift intervention in strengthening security operations in the state and acknowledged the effective cooperation between the Enugu State Government and Nigerian Air Force personnel stationed in the state.
He disclosed that joint security operations had led to the dismantling of criminal hideouts that could have evolved into major camps for criminal elements.
The governor further revealed that areas previously threatened by criminal activities were now being converted into large-scale farm estates, as part of the administration’s strategy to integrate security with economic productivity.
“Our approach is clear: forests and idle lands must not become havens for criminals. We would rather have farms and economic activities thriving there. Security and development must go hand in hand,” Mbah said.
He assured the Nigerian Air Force of the state’s readiness to expand collaboration, including the provision of land for resettlement homes, agricultural projects and other welfare initiatives to support officers and personnel.
Mbah also commended the Air Force leadership for renewed momentum in tackling insurgency and banditry nationwide, pledging sustained partnership to guarantee lasting peace and inclusive development in Enugu State.
