Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s deployment of troops to Kaiama Local Government Area will restore peace following a deadly terrorist attack in the area.
AbdulRazaq stated this on Thursday while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The governor said he briefed President Tinubu on the security situation in Kaiama and commended him for the swift establishment of Operation Savannah Shield, describing it as a decisive response to the attacks.
According to AbdulRazaq, the military operation would significantly deter further attacks and help stabilise the affected communities.
“The President has directed the armed forces to move in, clean up the area, and ensure that peace and calm are fully restored,” the governor said.
He disclosed that the first commander of Operation Savannah Shield had already assumed duty in Ilorin and commenced operations.
AbdulRazaq said the Kwara State Government would continue to work closely with the Nigerian military and other security agencies to ensure lasting security across the state.
“We will continue to rely on the armed forces and other security agencies to stabilise the communities and prevent a recurrence of such attacks,” he added.
It would be recalled that suspected terrorists, on Tuesday, launched coordinated attacks on Worro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, with scores of residents feared dead.
