The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a three-day spell of dust haze and sunshine across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted moderate dust haze over parts of Kebbi State and Kano State on Monday, with horizontal visibility expected to range between two and five kilometres.
The agency said the remaining northern states would experience sunny and hazy conditions throughout the forecast period.
For the central region, NiMet projected moderate dust haze over parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, while other states in the zone would remain sunny and hazy.
In the southern region, sunny skies with patches of cloud are expected, alongside chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Bayelsa State, Lagos State, Cross River State and Akwa Ibom State.
On Tuesday, NiMet anticipates slight dust haze over parts of Kano and Kebbi States, with sunny and hazy skies persisting across the rest of the northern region. The central region is expected to remain sunny and hazy, with isolated thunderstorms likely over Plateau State during the afternoon and evening.
By Wednesday, the agency forecast continued sunny and hazy skies across the northern and central regions, while the southern states may witness afternoon or evening thunderstorms with light rains over parts of Oyo State, Ogun State, Ondo State, Edo State, Delta State, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
NiMet warned that dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere and advised the public, especially people with asthma and other respiratory conditions, to take necessary precautions.
The agency also urged motorists to drive cautiously during rainfall and advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.
Residents were encouraged to stay updated through regular weather advisories issued by the agency.
