The South-East wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally endorsed President Tinubu for a second term in office, passing a vote of confidence in his leadership and committing to large-scale regional mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.
The endorsement was announced at the APC South-East Stakeholders’ Meeting held on Saturday at the Presidential Hotel, Enugu, with party leaders, lawmakers, and faithful from Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states in attendance.
Speaking at the meeting, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, said the gathering reviewed the political position of the South-East and agreed on a unified path forward. He noted that President Tinubu had effectively placed his political future in 2027 in the hands of the South-East APC, describing the trust as a significant responsibility.
“That statement places on us a duty to ensure the South-East becomes part and parcel of the national political equation,” Uzodimma said.
He described the turnout as a reflection of the zone’s political strength, adding that participants were influential leaders whose voices carried weight across their communities and within the APC nationally.
Uzodimma disclosed that about 70 percent of the South-East’s political leadership was represented at the meeting, stressing that there was now a growing consensus among regional elites to actively engage with national power structures.
He said the South-East took a “strange path” during the 2023 elections and warned that continued political isolation would be costly. According to him, President Tinubu deserves a second term to consolidate and complete the reforms already underway.
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, called for an end to political fragmentation in the region, declaring that the South-East would no longer operate as a divided political bloc.
He said the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu was not merely rhetorical but aligned with the region’s aspirations for economic growth and federal inclusion.
“This endorsement demonstrates our resolve to push this momentum further for the benefit of our people and economy,” Mbah said.
Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, praised President Tinubu for his consistent support for South-East APC governors and for strengthening the party’s growth in the zone. He expressed confidence that the APC would deliver the president in 2027, citing increasing defections into the party.
Nwifuru urged party leaders to embrace reconciliation and make sacrifices to accommodate new members, stressing unity within the region.
Also speaking, Senator Peter Nwebonyi (Ebonyi North) said the South-East must reconnect with the centre of power, arguing that emotional politics could not translate into electoral success.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, echoed the call for unity, stating that the era of sentiment-driven voting in the South-East had ended. He said winning federal power required strategic alliances and urged full support for President Tinubu in 2027.
Kalu commended South-East APC governors for their collective endorsement, noting that President Tinubu had demonstrated inclusiveness and shown no form of regional discrimination.
