The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising ongoing housing projects across the country in 2026, with a strong focus on timely completion and expanded delivery.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, made this pledge on Friday in Abuja during the ministry’s expanded management meeting with heads of departments and units.

Dangiwa explained that the meeting reviewed the ministry’s 2025 performance and outlined its 2026 work plan, stressing that the year would be decisive for the housing sector.

“The ministry will, in 2026, prioritise the completion of all ongoing projects, particularly the Renewed Hope Housing Projects. This reaffirms the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to providing Nigerians with access to affordable and decent housing,” he said.

Describing 2026 as a defining year, the minister said Nigerians would assess what the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development had delivered in tangible terms.

Despite funding challenges in 2025, Dangiwa said the ministry recorded notable achievements, including reforms in land administration and progress on Renewed Hope Cities in Karsana, Abuja, Kano, and Lagos, which are expected to be commissioned soon.

He urged staff to increase their level of commitment, noting that if such milestones were achieved under financial constraints, greater results were possible in 2026 with improved funding.

Dangiwa disclosed that the Federal Government had made firm commitments to address funding gaps and clear outstanding liabilities in the housing sector in 2026.

He directed the Directors of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) and Public Buildings departments to intensify site monitoring to ensure effective and timely project delivery, stressing that Nigerians expect affordable and decent housing outcomes.

The minister further instructed departmental heads to ensure that mobilised contractors return to site and adhere strictly to clearly defined project timelines.

According to him, consolidating the ministry’s legacy in 2026 is critical to showcasing its achievements to both Nigerians and the international community.

On the Renewed Hope Cities initiative, Dangiwa announced that Maiduguri, Enugu, and Port Harcourt would be added as new project locations, bringing the total number of Renewed Hope Cities to six, alongside Lagos, Abuja, and Kano.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, said the PPP and Public Buildings departments were expected to meet their 2026 targets, assuring them of the necessary institutional support.

Belgore added that robust publicity programmes would be deployed to highlight achievements in the housing sector as part of the administration’s 2026 scorecard, noting that Nigerians were eager to see improved delivery under the Renewed Hope agenda.
