Nkanu West Budget for the 2026 fiscal year was formally presented to the Nkanu West Legislative Council by the Executive Chairman, Mr John Chukwuma Ogbodo, who announced a total projected revenue of ₦8,219,600,000, describing the estimate as a “Budget of Sustainability” focused on consolidating critical projects and expanding access to basic services.

Addressing the Leader, Deputy Leader, and councillors, Mr Ogbodo said the Nkanu West Budget was deliberately aligned with the development philosophy of the Enugu State Government, noting that effective grassroots delivery has been made possible because the state government does not interfere with constitutionally allocated local government funds.

“This administration has been able to deliver tangible projects because local government funds are not tampered with. That fiscal independence has allowed us to plan, execute, and sustain people-focused interventions across Nkanu West,” he said.

Highlighting achievements under the current administration, Mr Ogbodo disclosed that the council has drilled and completed solar-powered boreholes at Ọnụeke Ọnọwọ, Igwenchi, Ọnụeke Aniugbọ, Amuzam, Onuvu-Echara, Central School Ndiagu Obuno Akpugo, Anichi, Onuogba, and Agudene. He added that a total of solar-powered boreholes have been executed across 12 different schools within the local government area.

Beyond these, the chairman announced a special intervention at Agbani General Hospital, which went beyond the provision of a solar-powered borehole to address the broader water and service needs of the facility.

“These water projects are strategic. They improve public health outcomes, support learning environments in our schools, and reduce the daily burden on our communities,” Mr Ogbodo stated.

The chairman further listed other completed and ongoing projects to include the facelift of the local government administrative block, construction of a double bungalow for the Sexual Assault Referral Centre at Agbani, improved waste management through refuse evacuation and bin distribution, construction of modern public conveniences and market facilities with solar boreholes, and a modern meat processing facility.

On infrastructure, he said Smart School link roads with drainage and culverts remain under active construction, while rural road projects are progressing steadily. In the health sector, he noted the consistent release of counterpart funding for Type-2 health centres in all 14 wards. Agricultural interventions, he added, include the near completion of a 200-hectare smart farm in Amurri and Akpugo wards and the distribution of fertilisers and agro-inputs to farmers.

Reacting to the presentation, the Leader of the Nkanu West Legislative Council described the Nkanu West Budget as realistic and people-oriented.

“This House has taken note of the depth of projects already executed and those proposed. We will ensure diligent consideration and timely passage of the 2026 budget in the interest of our people,” the Leader said.

Mr Ogbodo explained that the Nkanu West Budget is driven by policy priorities including infrastructure development, improved healthcare delivery, quality education through Green Smart Schools, aggressive internal revenue generation, environmental sustainability, and strict adherence to transparency and accountability.

He concluded by formally laying the budget before the council for speedy passage, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to prudent financial management and effective service delivery.
