More than 2,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi have formally moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Their announcement to defect to APC was made during a gathering in Birnin Kebbi, where they were received by the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru.

Speaking for the group, former PDP House of Assembly candidate, Alhaji Arzika Lawal, said their decision was driven by Governor Nasir Idris’ achievements in restoring peace and stability in the area.

“We are more than 2,000 PDP members leaving the party to join the APC in recognition of the Governor’s tireless efforts in bringing back a safe environment to Danko-Wasagu,” he said.

Lawal commended the governor for facilitating the release of the abducted students of Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, describing the intervention as swift and compassionate. However, he urged the party leadership to caution certain aides of the governor.

“Some of the governor’s aides are not following his footprints. They are not helping their people, and the party must bring them to order,” he said.

Mrs. Binta Bena, a political singer, also praised Idris’ performance, noting significant improvements in security.

“The three years of Gov. Idris have been more beneficial to the people of Kebbi than the eight years of the previous administration,” she said.

She added that residents who once lived in fear now enjoy 24-hour troop surveillance following the permanent deployment of security personnel across strategic points.

Receiving the new party members, Kana-Zuru assured them they would be treated equally.

“The party has received you wholeheartedly. From today, you are like all other members of the APC. I have instructed party executives at the ward and local government levels to engage and consult with you in all party affairs,” he said.

He also highlighted Governor Idris’ commitment to infrastructure development, especially the ongoing construction of the Koko-Dabai Federal Road.

Their collective decision to defect to APC underscores the administration’s growing influence in Kebbi, especially on issues of security and community trust.
