A swift Imo Police Operation in Owerri has resulted in the arrest of two robbery suspects, the recovery of firearms, and a stolen shuttle bus, the Imo Police Command says.

OWERRI, Nigeria – November 15, 2025: An overnight Imo Police Operation has resulted in the arrest of two suspected armed robbers and the recovery of firearms and a stolen commercial bus in Owerri.

The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the development in a statement released in Owerri on Friday. He said the Imo Police Operation was executed by officers of the Owerri Urban Divisional Headquarters following credible intelligence about criminal activity around the Emmanuel College/Wetheral Junction axis by West End.

According to Okoye, the officers were on a routine visibility patrol at about 0200hrs when they launched the Imo Police Operation, leading to the interception of four suspects. The men attempted to flee on sighting the patrol team, prompting a brief chase.

Two suspects were apprehended during the pursuit, while two others escaped. A search on the arrested suspects led to the recovery of two locally made firearms, five live cartridges, and a stolen white Hijet Shuttle Bus with registration number MMA 919 XA.

Okoye stated that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and identify those manufacturing the locally fabricated weapons. He also relayed Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma’s warning to criminal elements across the state, stressing that more proactive Imo Police Operations would continue to safeguard residents.

He urged citizens to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and use the command’s emergency line 08034773600. Okoye added that the arrested suspects would be charged to court once investigations conclude.
