The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Mr. John Chuma Nwosu (JCN), has rejected the outcome of the Anambra election, alleging widespread Vote Buying and financial inducement across polling units.

In a statement issued after the election held on November 8, Nwosu described the Vote Buying-tainted process as “a ruse and total subversion of the people’s will.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner of the governorship election with 422,664 votes.

Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came second with 99,445 votes, while Nwosu of the ADC scored 8,208 votes.

Nwosu alleged that the people of Anambra had been denied their voice, claiming that Vote Buying and inducement were rampant in virtually all polling units.

“In almost every polling unit, voters were openly induced with cash ranging from ₦3,000 to ₦20,000, turning the entire process into a marketplace rather than a democratic exercise,” he said.

He condemned the practice of Vote Buying, calling it “a national embarrassment and a direct assault on the integrity of our democracy.”

According to him, “It was a win bought with cash and a loss for democracy. True victory is judged not by the outcome but by the integrity of the process.”

Nwosu further criticized the failure of relevant institutions to safeguard the sanctity of the ballot, noting that a system that permits Vote Buying has lost the moral right to declare winners.

He emphasized that the culture of electoral corruption must end if Nigeria truly desires a prosperous and just society.

“The conscience of our democracy has been wounded, when votes are bought, the future is sold,” Nwosu stated.

He added that what took place was “not the expression of choice, but the triumph of desperation and greed over justice and fairness.”

Nwosu expressed appreciation to members of his party and campaign team for maintaining integrity in the face of intimidation and inducement, stressing that the ADC would continue to stand for transparency and truth. Visit GMTNewsng for more news.
