Residents of Benue State have commended President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure drive after inspecting key federal and state projects, describing them as transformative and pledging support for his 2027 re-election.
Residents of Benue State have applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s infrastructure programme after the Presidential Media Team and the Renewed Hope Ambassadors inspected major Federal and state government projects across the state.
The inspection tour, held on Thursday, covered several ongoing and completed infrastructure projects, including the Buruku-Logo Bridge, Wurukum Overhead Bridge in Makurdi, the 22-kilometre Makurdi-Gboko Road, the Makurdi High-Level Roundabout Interchange, and the Gboko Underpass and Interchange.
The projects form part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve connectivity, ease transportation and stimulate economic development across North-Central Nigeria.
The delegation, comprising more than 40 editors and journalists, was led by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The media tour was organised to independently assess and document the implementation of major Federal and state government projects under President Tinubu’s administration.
Speaking during the inspection, Onanuga said the Buruku-Logo Bridge is one of five Federal Government bridges currently under construction in Benue State and demonstrates the administration’s commitment to investing borrowed funds in productive infrastructure.
He explained that the bridge would reconnect previously isolated communities, reduce travel time, improve access to markets for farmers and strengthen economic integration among Benue, Taraba and Adamawa states.
According to him, the projects are funded through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, with adequate financing already secured for their timely completion. The Makurdi-Gboko Road, a key component of Phase II of the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi Expressway, is expected to be completed by December 2027.
The delegation also inspected the ongoing 25.6-kilometre Captain Dan Road from Lubona Junction to the Tor Tiv Palace, the Food Basket Brewery Limited in Makurdi and the Federal Government-funded rehabilitation of the Buruku-Gboko Water Treatment Plant at Ameladu Headworks.
A major highlight of the visit was the 1,754-metre Buruku-Logo Bridge, which is expected to improve access to agrarian communities across the River Benue, facilitate trade with neighbouring Taraba State and enhance regional integration.
Project officials disclosed that more than 50 workers from the host community are currently employed on the bridge project.
Residents described the bridge as a life-changing intervention that would eliminate years of dangerous river crossings, reduce fatal boat accidents during the rainy season and improve the livelihoods of surrounding communities. Many also expressed appreciation for the employment opportunities created through the ongoing construction work.
Speaking with journalists, Benue State Deputy Governor, Dr. Samuel Ode, thanked the Federal Government for its continued investment in infrastructure across the state.
He described the ongoing Wurukum Overhead Bridge as a critical intervention along the Abuja-Lafia-Makurdi-Enugu corridor, which has long suffered severe traffic congestion, especially during festive periods.
According to Ode, President Tinubu approved the project after a request by Governor Hyacinth Alia, and construction is progressing rapidly.
He also highlighted the state’s investment in the Makurdi Central Interchange and Underpass, noting that the project is improving traffic flow by linking Government House, the Central Business District, Wurukum and the Abuja-Enugu Highway.
Residents who spoke during the inspection expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the visible impact of ongoing infrastructure projects had renewed public trust in the Federal Government. Several residents also pledged continued support for the President, citing improved road connectivity, enhanced economic opportunities and better access to markets as key benefits of the ongoing infrastructure drive.
