A delegation of the Supreme Council of Tijaniyya has visited President Bola Tinubu to express condolences over the death of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, while praying for peace, unity and continued progress in Nigeria.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received a delegation of the Supreme Council of Tijaniyya at the State House, Abuja, following the passing of renowned Islamic scholar and former leader of the Tijaniyya movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi.
The delegation, comprising representatives from Algeria, Nigeria and Senegal, conveyed the council’s condolences to the President and offered prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity and continued progress.
The visiting delegation also included members of the Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Foundation, led by Khalifa Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
Delivering the condolence message on behalf of the organisation, the Khalifa of Tijaniyya in Algeria, Sheikh Ali Bin Arabi, expressed sympathy to President Tinubu over the loss of the respected Islamic leader.
He noted the longstanding spiritual, social and economic ties between Nigeria and Algeria, expressing hope that the relationship would continue to flourish.
Sheikh Ali also prayed for enduring peace and love in Nigeria, as well as good health and divine guidance for President Tinubu.
According to the delegation, the Tijaniyya organisation has more than 400 million members worldwide.
Responding, President Tinubu thanked the delegation for the condolence visit and paid glowing tribute to the late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi.
“We miss our father, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi. He was a beloved father and a great leader,” the President said.
Tinubu also commended the Tijaniyya movement for its contributions to the promotion of Islam across Africa and beyond.
“I respect you for what you are doing for Islam across Africa and the whole world. May God continue to guide you,” he added.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic scholars and spiritual leaders, passed away on November 26, 2025, at the age of 98.
