The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced that 16 officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria are facing disciplinary action over alleged acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau. He said the affected officers were apprehended during a routine military exercise after investigations revealed multiple infractions inconsistent with military ethics and discipline.

According to Gusau, preliminary findings showed that some of the officers’ actions were influenced by frustration over perceived career stagnation, including repeated failures in promotion examinations and other internal service-related grievances.

He noted that some of the apprehended officers were already under military jurisdiction for previous offences, either awaiting or undergoing trial. Their conduct, he said, was found to be incompatible with the high standards expected in the Armed Forces.

Brig.-Gen. Gusau assured that, following investigations, all indicted personnel would be subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures in line with the Armed Forces Act and established military justice procedures.

He emphasized that the ongoing disciplinary action was part of the military’s routine process to maintain order, discipline, and professionalism among its ranks.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria will not tolerate any behaviour that undermines its cohesion or threatens its constitutional role. We remain committed to professionalism, loyalty, and the defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty,” Gusau reaffirmed. GMTNewsng
