The family of late Chief Patrick Eugene Kudiegwu Agu of Amogwu-Amezeike Abor, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, has announced the funeral arrangements for their revered matriarch, Ezinne Bernadette Uchenwa Agu (née Onodugo), who passed on at the age of 90. A woman of deep Catholic faith, motherly warmth, and quiet strength, her rites of passage are scheduled to begin on Monday, June 16, 2025, and culminate in her interment on Friday, June 20, in her ancestral home.
The final journey will begin with a Service of Songs at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, RCC GRA, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, by 5 p.m. on Monday. This event will set the tone for a week of solemn reflection and celebration of a life that impacted generations through grace, service, and faith. Family, friends, and church members are expected to gather to offer hymns and prayers in honour of her enduring legacy.
On Thursday, June 19, her remains will be received at Dr. Nnoke Obiekwe Memorial Medical Foundation, Uwani, and taken to her Enugu residence for a brief lying-in-state. From there, a procession will move to her father’s compound in Umuavulu, Abor, where the Onodugo family will pay their final respects. Her body will then lie in state at her country home, Aguodu family compound, Amogwu, Amezeike Abor, where a Christian Wake will be held.
The highlight of the burial programme will take place on Friday, June 20, with a Burial Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Abor, Udi L.G.A., Enugu State. Interment will follow at the Aguodu family compound, where generations will gather to commit her soul to the earth and celebrate her passage to eternal rest. A Farewell Agape will follow immediately after at the same venue.
A Thanksgiving and Outing Service is scheduled for Sunday, June 22, at 9 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Abor. It will be a final moment of gratitude to God for the gift of Ezinne Bernadette Uchenwa Agu’s life and virtues. Family members have invited all well-wishers to join in honouring a woman whose devotion to faith and family remains a shining example.
As the Agu, Onodugo, and extended families prepare to bid farewell, Ezinne Bernadette is being remembered not only for her age but for the values she upheld—humility, devotion, and love. Her transition is a significant moment for the people of Abor and the Catholic community in Enugu State, marking the end of an era and the celebration of a remarkable life well lived.
The burial announcement was officially released on behalf of the family by Chief Dr. Sean P.C. Agu, underscoring the family’s readiness to honour the matriarch’s life with dignity and faith. GMTNewsng
