Dr. Edison Ogerenye Ehie, the former Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that he secured a court order preventing the newly appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from resuming duties. He described the claims as “fake news” being peddled by mischief-makers aiming to heighten political tensions in the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Ehie condemned the “malicious post” that falsely claimed he filed a suit challenging the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State as unconstitutional. “Ordinarily, I would not have reacted to this empty social media rant by low-minds and never-do-wells,” he said. “However, it is necessary to set the record straight and prevent the gullible public from falling for this cheap blackmail and misinformation.”
Ehie further ridiculed the credibility of the post, stating that even its author failed to correctly spell his name, the names of others mentioned, or provide any verifiable suit number. “The truth is that even the author is so uneducated and illiterate that he or she cannot correctly spell my name, or the names of others he or she claims to be writing about,” he added.
He urged the people of Rivers State to ignore the false claims, warning that they were designed to sow division and discontent. “It is important to advise the general public and particularly the good people of Rivers State to discountenance this baseless, false, and malicious post, as it is intended to create bad blood while painting me as a non-conformist,” he asserted.
The former Chief of Staff reaffirmed his commitment to peace and the rule of law, stating that he has no intention of engaging in any activities that could portray him as disruptive. “I have since decided to be law-abiding and conduct my affairs peacefully in accordance with the law, holding strong to my faith and God,” he stated.
Ehie concluded by calling on Rivers residents and Nigerians at large to disregard the social media post, labeling it a calculated attempt to incite hatred and unrest. “I, therefore, urge peace-loving Rivers people and fellow Nigerians to treat this reckless post as a deliberate attempt to invade their cyberspace with unsolicited and vexatious narratives aimed at achieving nothing but hate and anger,” he said.
