The 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has emphasized the pivotal role of Ibadanland in Nigeria’s human and capital development.
Obi made the remark during a visit to the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan on Sunday.
Ibadan’s Role in Nigeria’s Socio-Economic and Political History
Obi noted that the socio-economic and political history of Nigeria would be incomplete without Ibadan, describing the ancient city as a major contributor to the nation’s progress.
He recalled that Ibadanland had always played a leading role in shaping both political leadership and economic development in Nigeria.
The former governor of Anambra State, who was accompanied by LP chieftains and prominent Igbo leaders, commended the contributions of Ibadan indigenes both at home and in the diaspora.
Obi’s Message of Support for Ladoja
“The position of Ibadan in Nigeria’s history cannot be ignored, as it remains a home for all because of the hospitable nature of its people,” Obi said.
He described Oba Rashidi Ladoja as a leader of immense political experience, having served as Governor of Oyo State and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Obi expressed confidence that Ladoja would bring his wealth of experience to bear as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, pledging his personal support to ensure a successful reign.
Ladoja: Becoming Olubadan is Service, Not Glamour
In his response, Olubadan-designate Oba Rashidi Ladoja described his ascension to the throne as a continuation of his service to humanity.
“That I am alive today is further confirmation of the grace of God upon my life,” Ladoja said.
He stressed that the Olubadan throne is not about glamour but service, adding that leadership must be defined by what one offers to society rather than personal prestige.
“It is God who enthrones the Olubadan, not money or influence. My appointment is another opportunity to serve, and I will continue to give thanks to Him,” he added. GMTNewsng
