Miyetti Allah Commends Enugu Government, Calls for Stronger Ties with Citizens after Herders’ Attack

ENUGU, September 14, 2025

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has lauded the Enugu State Government for its peaceful intervention following the recent attack on herders, stressing that collaboration and mutual understanding between herders, the government, and residents remain key to lasting peace.

In a statement on Sunday, the National Deputy Director of MACBAN, Mr. Gidado Siddiki, expressed confidence in Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, describing its response to the attack — which left six herders dead and over 100 cattle rustled — as a clear demonstration of its commitment to protecting lawful trades and ensuring justice for all. He noted that the intervention of security agencies under the state government’s directive not only reassured affected families but also reinforced the association’s belief in Enugu’s determination to safeguard lives and property.

Siddiki explained that while the incident was deeply unfortunate, it also presented an opportunity to strengthen cooperation. According to him, Miyetti Allah is encouraged by the assurances that perpetrators of the attack will be brought to book, and it remains hopeful that such tragedies can be prevented through sustained dialogue and vigilance.

He added that MACBAN’s engagement with the state government had been “fruitful,” urging members to maintain confidence in the ongoing investigations. Beyond sympathy for the bereaved families, Siddiki stressed that the herder community’s losses were “a collective loss to society,” and called on all stakeholders to view peacebuilding as a shared responsibility.

The association, he said, is not apportioning blame on the government, acknowledging that “no administration desires unrest during its tenure.” Instead, he explained that MACBAN has a duty to report ordeals and challenges so that authorities can act promptly. He particularly appreciated the fact that, without government intervention, the victims’ bodies could not have been recovered for Islamic burial rites.

Siddiki concluded by calling for deeper synergy between Miyetti Allah, the Enugu Government, and the wider populace. He maintained that through dialogue, empathy, and fairness, the state could continue to foster peaceful coexistence and secure an environment where both farmers and herders thrive. GMTNewsng
