AWKA – In a significant breakthrough in the fight against organized crime, the Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnap and gruesome murder of a female bank manager in Onitsha, after a ransom of ₦14 million was paid by the victim’s family.

The arrests, made on May 28, 2025, are part of ongoing efforts by the Command to pursue criminal cases to a logical conclusion and ensure justice is served. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives trailed the suspects – Monday Egbe (32) and Kenneth Nnoga (28) – to their hideout in a neighbouring state, following weeks of painstaking intelligence and surveillance.

The tragic incident, which sent shockwaves across the banking and business communities in Anambra, occurred on January 13, 2025, when the victim’s lifeless body was discovered along Nnobi Road with her eyes blindfolded. Her abductors had reportedly collected the ransom before murdering her in cold blood.

Speaking on the breakthrough, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, MNIPS, PhD, reaffirmed the Command’s zero tolerance for violent crimes. “This arrest is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that no criminal escapes justice in Anambra. We will continue to deploy intelligence-led policing to dismantle criminal networks and keep our communities safe,” he said.

A legal practitioner and human rights advocate based in Onitsha, Barrister Uju Akubue, commended the police for their resilience. “This case is a wake-up call. It was not just a crime against one individual, but against a system that values human dignity and life. I applaud the police for showing professionalism and refusing to let this matter slide.”

Meanwhile, the suspects are undergoing interrogation to provide further details on the operation of the gang and aid in the arrest of other accomplices. Security experts believe this development could help unravel a wider criminal syndicate operating across state lines.

“This kind of outcome shows that crime does not pay,” said Dr. Emma Okoye, a criminologist and public safety analyst. “The timely arrests by Anambra police send a strong deterrent message to other would-be offenders.”

The Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its dedication to safeguarding the lives and property of Ndi Anambra and all residents, promising that justice will prevail in this disturbing case. GMTNewsng
