Jane Edidiong Ufot, the daughter of Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, has made disturbing allegations against her father, accusing him of being responsible for the death of her mother, the late First Lady Patience Oluwakemi Umo Eno. In a video posted to social media, Mrs. Ufot claimed her mother was “sacrificed” and warned that her own life and that of her daughter were now in danger. The explosive video has sparked public concern and drawn national attention.
“I’m not a sacrifice. Mummy was, but I’m not,” Mrs. Ufot declared emotionally in the video, which has since gone viral. The late Patience Umo Eno passed away in September 2024 from an undisclosed illness, according to the state government. However, Mrs. Ufot’s new claims suggest a more sinister cause. “If I die today or my daughter dies… because God is exposing the truth, so be it. But my blood will not go scot-free,” she said.
In the video, Mrs. Ufot also involved her young daughter in the allegations, handing the child the phone during what appeared to be a video call with Governor Eno. She instructed the girl to question her grandfather directly. “So, Grandpa, do you want them to kill us? Do you want them to die like my baby brother died?” the child asked. The governor’s response was not audible, and it remains unclear who the child meant by “them.”
Mrs. Ufot, who reportedly serves as a senior special adviser to the governor on health, safety, and environment, suggested that her falling out with the administration was linked to sensitive information she had uncovered. “My life is on the line because of what I know,” she said, though she declined to disclose specific details. She also accused unnamed individuals of targeting her family to silence her.
Efforts to reach Governor Eno for comment have so far been unsuccessful. His Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, could not be reached as his phone line remained switched off as of press time. The state government has yet to issue any formal response to the allegations, fueling speculation and concern among Akwa Ibom residents and beyond.
The video has ignited widespread reactions on social media, with many calling for an independent investigation into both the circumstances surrounding the former First Lady’s death and the safety of the governor’s daughter. While Mrs. Ufot’s claims remain unverified, they have opened a new chapter in Akwa Ibom’s political landscape, casting a shadow over the state government at a time of mounting public scrutiny.
