Aba Power’s Feeder Team, in collaboration with security agencies, has arrested two individuals for illegal meter tampering. The arrests occurred on Orji Street, off Umule Road, Aba, following what security sources called “overwhelming evidence” of their involvement in energy theft within the Aba Ring-fenced Area.
Isak Adamu, an electrician, was apprehended after weeks of surveillance, which identified him as the mastermind behind multiple meter tampering cases. During interrogation, the second suspect, Udeme James, admitted to paying Adamu ₦7,000 monthly to manipulate his meter and avoid accurate billing.
A police officer, speaking anonymously, revealed that investigations had uncovered Adamu’s connection to a wider network of clients using his illegal services. “He is cooperating with us to identify and prosecute those who engaged his services,” the officer stated.
Aba Power’s Chief Operating Officer, Engr. Blessing Ogbe, expressed disappointment in both Adamu and James for defrauding the company, Nigeria’s 12th power distributor. “We will implement stricter monitoring of prepaid meters to eradicate energy theft and protect revenue,” he said. “Legal action will be taken swiftly against offenders, in line with the 2023 Electricity Act.”

Ogbe urged the public to help identify those involved in the criminal activity, emphasizing its harmful impact on both the company and its customers. He also commended the Nigerian Police Force officers from the World Bank Police Station, Abayi, Aba, for their role in the investigation and arrests.
This crackdown comes after Group Managing Director of Geometric Power Group, Mrs. Agatha Nnaji, during a recent Customer Service Week event, condemned the rising cases of energy theft and vandalism. She reassured customers of improved power supply, noting significant progress in resolving gas supply issues that had affected turbine operations and service delivery in the Aba Ring-fence Area.
