On Tuesday morning, the 10th Senate President election took place, wherein Godswill Akpabio, the Senator-elect for Akwa Ibom South-West emerged victorious by defeating Abdul’aziz Yari, the Senator-elect for Zamfara West.

Out of the 109 votes cast, Akpabio received the highest number of votes.

Akpabio polled 63 votes to defeat Senator Adulaziz Yari, his closest rival who polled 46 votes.

Senator Akpabio has been sworn in by the clerk of the national assembly, Mr Tambuwal.
