A group in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which is known as G5 Integrity Group is currently in a secret meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the Presidential Villa, today, Thursday. This group is regarded as a political renegade group within the opposition party and has been seeking for ways to enhance its political relevance.

Furthermore, sources reveal that the G5 Integrity Group is aiming to establish political cooperation with the President in order to keep the rising tide of Peter Obi in check in their respective states. The group is said to be seeking a partner who can help to consolidate their power within the party and the nation as a whole.

According to a reliable source, the G5 Integrity Group is contemplating the possibility of outright defection to another party, but this option is being kept under consideration, and the group would prefer an appointment to help them withstand the Labour Party waves.

The group is seeking ways to consolidate their political power, and a partnership with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one of the options they plan to explore.

In addition to this, during the meeting, President Tinubu and the G5 Integrity Group will discuss his recruitment plans in the South East towards an APC takeover in that region. It is important to note that while Dr. Ortom is the apparent leader of the group, it is the former governor Wike who holds the real authority, and who, earlier alongside Governor Makinde, has met with President Tinubu.

Furthermore, The G5 Integrity group is expected to discuss the status of their ongoing cases in various election tribunals during the meeting. Additionally, the group plans to seek support from the President for the 10th National Assembly’s leadership, who are pushing for a balance between Northern and South Eastern political interests.

It is important to note that during the February 25th National Assembly elections, the G5 Integrity Group not only dealt a significant blow to their party, the PDP, but also suffered a fatal defeat as three of their Governors lost their senatorial seats to other parties. The discussion during the meeting may touch upon this loss and how the group can improve their political relevance and power in the future.

It’s worth noting that the three Governors who were part of the G.5 Integrity Group and lost their senatorial seats during the February 25th National Assembly elections are Ortom (Benue), Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Ikpeazu (Abia). Their losses were significant – Ortom lost to an APC candidate, Ugwuanyi to the Labour Party, and Ikpeazu to Enyinnaya Abaribe of the All Progressive Grand Alliance.

The G-5 Integrity group consists of several notable politicians, including the former Governor of Rivers State (Nysom Wike), former Governor of Abia State (Okezie Ikpeazu), former Governor of Enugu State (Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi), former Governor of Benue State (Samuel Ortom), and the returning Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde. Despite belonging to the same party, the group engaged in a dirty fight that many analysts believe contributed significantly to the PDP’s poor performance during the last general elections. GMTNews
