Ogun State Police Command has dismantled an alleged baby factory in Mowe, arresting six suspects, rescuing two pregnant women and four children, and launching a search for a missing newborn.

The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled an alleged illegal baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, arresting six suspects and rescuing two pregnant women and four children in an intelligence-led operation.

The operation was carried out at about 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, by operatives of the Mowe Division following sustained intelligence on alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.

According to the police, the suspected syndicate operated from a hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. Preliminary investigations indicated that trafficking and illegal adoption activities had allegedly been taking place at the facility over time.

The two pregnant women rescued during the raid were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.

Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the premises.

Police subsequently conducted follow-up operations that led investigators to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had reportedly delivered a baby boy on August 20.

While the mother was receiving medical treatment at the hospital, the whereabouts of her newborn could not be established. The development prompted the arrest of the attending nurse as investigators intensified efforts to locate the missing infant.

The six suspects arrested have been identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and attending nurse Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The police said the investigation would determine the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division operatives for their prompt response and operational efficiency.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across Ogun State.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to the police, stressing that public cooperation remains essential to intelligence-led policing and the protection of vulnerable persons.

The development highlights the continuing challenge of human trafficking and child exploitation in Nigeria, with law enforcement agencies increasingly relying on intelligence-led operations and community information to identify trafficking networks and rescue victims.
