MainPower is exploring a capacity building partnership with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment to improve workforce productivity, occupational safety and electricity service delivery in Enugu State.
MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has expressed readiness to partner with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment on capacity building to strengthen workforce development, improve workplace safety and enhance electricity service delivery across Enugu State.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MEDL, Dr. Ernest Mupwaya, disclosed this while receiving a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, led by the Zonal Director/State Controller, Mrs. Irene Afoke, at the company’s corporate headquarters, Power House, Enugu.
The visit formed part of Afoke’s familiarisation engagements with key stakeholders in the state following her assumption of office as Zonal Director/State Controller.

She was accompanied by the Deputy Director, Mrs. Joy Oke; Assistant Chief Labour Inspector, Mrs. Eberechukwu Nome; Assistant Chief Labour Officer, Mr. Danjuma Akubor; and Principal Labour Officer, Mr. Chukwunonso Umegbolu.
Welcoming the delegation, Mupwaya commended the ministry for its contributions to promoting fair employment practices and creating productive working environments in the country.
He said collaboration between the ministry and MainPower, particularly in staff training and development, would improve employee productivity, strengthen occupational safety and ultimately enhance service delivery to electricity consumers.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for both organisations to discuss staff welfare, occupational health and safety, harmonious labour relations and practical ways of translating their shared objectives into actionable programmes.
As part of the proposed collaboration, Mupwaya suggested that both organisations nominate focal persons to identify priority training needs and develop an action plan with clearly defined responsibilities and timelines.

He explained that the plan would provide a framework for an initial training programme, alongside periodic reviews to assess implementation progress and measurable outcomes.
The MEDL managing director thanked Afoke and her team for the visit, reaffirming the company’s commitment to converting the discussions into practical improvements for its workforce and customers.
Also present at the meeting were the Group Chief Finance Officer of EEDC, Mr. Pauli Isiguzo, and the EEDC Company Secretary, Mr. Anthony Achebe.
Other members of the MEDL management team in attendance included the Chief Technical Officer, Engr. Chimezie Chukwu; Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Ikenna Akabogu; Head of Health, Safety and Environment, Dr. Francis Iwu; Head of Customer Service, Mrs. Ijeoma Ogudebe; and Head of Communications, Mr. Emeka Ezeh.
