Emeka Offor has provided major relief to 3,000 widows in Oraifite, Anambra State, distributing 6,000 bags of 50kg rice through his foundation’s quarterly welfare programme.
Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) has distributed 6,000 bags of 50-kilogramme rice to 3,000 widows in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, in a major humanitarian intervention aimed at easing the economic burden on vulnerable households.
The distribution took place on Sunday, August 23, 2026, as part of the foundation’s quarterly rice programme for widows in the community. Each of the 3,000 beneficiaries received two bags of rice. Reports from the event confirmed that the additional bag was intended to make up for a missed second-quarter distribution in May.
Speaking during the exercise, the founder of SEOF, Sir Emeka Offor, said the welfare of widows remained one of the foundation’s key priorities, describing the intervention as a practical demonstration of its commitment to vulnerable members of society.
He said the foundation’s humanitarian work was driven by the need to recognise vulnerability, respond to people’s immediate needs and restore dignity and hope.
“My foundation, Sir Emeka Offor Foundation has a lot of support packages for diverse people, but the one that is most dear to me is the quarterly distribution of rice to widows,” Offor said.
Offor disclosed that the foundation conducts the rice distribution exercise four times a year for widows in Oraifite.
He also revealed that the foundation had built houses for widows under its welfare programmes and would provide an additional 20 bungalows for widows in 2026.
The philanthropist further called for stronger protection for vulnerable people, particularly widows, warning against the abuse or dispossession of widows and promising to use lawful means to defend their interests.
“We will hire lawyers—we already have them—and we will use any means that is lawful to ensure that such acts don’t stand,” he said.
The foundation’s housing intervention is consistent with its existing programmes. Its official records show that SEOF has previously provided fully furnished homes to widows in Oraifite through its Touch-A-Life initiative, including 10 homes commissioned in 2024.
The latest intervention coincided with the Afiolu Festival, an annual cultural celebration associated with Oraifite and its people.
Offor described the festival as more than a cultural celebration, noting its importance in preserving heritage and strengthening communal bonds.
He said occasions such as the festival should also provide an opportunity to remember people who may not have the financial capacity to participate fully in community celebrations.
The intervention therefore combined immediate food support with the foundation’s broader objective of ensuring that vulnerable members of the community are not left behind during important social and cultural occasions.
Chairman of the foundation, Chief Tony Obi, said the rice distribution was part of a structured quarterly programme designed to provide sustained assistance to widows in the community.
He explained that the foundation had missed the second-quarter distribution in May, prompting the decision to give each beneficiary two bags during the third-quarter exercise.
The President-General of the Oraifite community, Hon. Vin Dike, commended Offor for his sustained interventions in the community, citing his contributions to road infrastructure, scholarships, housing, healthcare and medical assistance.
A representative of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Ogechi Izuka, also expressed appreciation for the continued support, noting that widows had benefited from clothing, healthcare and housing interventions under the foundation’s programmes.
The Sir Emeka Offor Foundation has maintained a long-running focus on vulnerable groups through programmes covering healthcare, education, empowerment, housing and widow support. Its official records show that the foundation launched a dedicated rice distribution programme in 2023 and has continued interventions targeted at widows in Oraifite.
The latest distribution gives immediate food relief to 3,000 widows while reinforcing the foundation’s broader emphasis on sustained social welfare and community development in Anambra State.
