President Bola Tinubu assures Catholic Bishops of national recovery, highlighting security architecture restructuring and economic stabilization efforts.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured the nation that ongoing structural reforms across Nigeria’s military and security institutions will successfully dismantle violent crime, terrorism, and banditry across the country.
Speaking at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday while receiving the executive leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), the President emphasized that the federal administration is systematically repositioning national security architecture for higher operational efficiency and sustainable peace.
Addressing the delegation led by CBCN President and Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Reverend Matthew Ndagoso, President Tinubu outlined a comprehensive strategy focused on enhanced intelligence gathering, structural reorganization, upgraded logistical support, and direct welfare prioritization for frontline personnel.
The President called on religious leaders nationwide to actively support government peacebuilding efforts by condemning violent extremist attacks and embedding messages of national unity within their sermons.
Highlighting economic recovery metrics, President Tinubu stated that the federal government has averted economic collapse, stabilized fiscal indicators, and paved the way for widespread prosperity.
He pointed to key interventions designed to cushion social hardship, including the expansion of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and increased capacity across tertiary education systems. The President observed that stability in the higher education sector, marked by uninterrupted academic calendars across federal universities, serves as evidence of positive institutional progress under his administration.
In his address, Archbishop Ndagoso commended the administration for its warm engagement with diplomatic delegations from the Holy See while outlining critical national concerns regarding security, food security, social welfare, educational accessibility, and political inclusivity.
The Catholic leadership urged the administration to safeguard democratic institutions, ensure free and credible electoral processes ahead of future general elections, and facilitate equitable rights for religious organizations nationwide, including the return of mission schools at the discretion of state governments.
Responding to concerns regarding electoral integrity and institutional neutrality, President Tinubu reaffirmed the absolute independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), asserting that all political entities enjoy equal participation in national democratic processes.
He assured the clerics that state governments retain constitutional discretion regarding mission school transfers, citing his historical precedent in Lagos State, while pledging that the administration remains steadfastly focused on lifting Nigerian households out of poverty through education, vocational skills development, and structured economic opportunities.
