The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a father, Amos Paul, for allegedly brutalising his 10-year-old daughter by inflicting horrific burns on her body with a heated laundry iron as punishment for bedwetting.
The Police Command in Ondo State has apprehended a father, identified as Amos Paul, for allegedly brutalising his ten-year-old daughter by inflicting horrific bodily injuries on her.
The suspect, a resident of the Unaun area of Upenme within the Owo Local Government Area, reportedly took the law into his own hands after accusing the young child of bedwetting.
Instead of seeking corrective guidance, the father resorted to extreme physical torture, sparking immediate outrage within the local community and forcing law enforcement agents to intervene.
The spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest in an official law enforcement statement released on Friday in Akure. According to the police spokesperson, the suspect allegedly used a heavily heated laundry iron to inflict deep, severe burns on the private parts of the young girl.
The incident was formally reported to the local police division on Thursday after concerned individuals discovered the extensive trauma inflicted on the child. Due to the critical nature of her physical state, the victim was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owo, where clinical teams are currently administering intensive medical treatment for her severe injuries.
Following the initial tip-off, detectives attached to the ‘A’ Division in Owo swiftly mobilized to the suspect’s residence, took him into custody, and secured the crime scene. DSP Jimoh disclosed that the criminal case file is being transferred to the specialized Gender Unit of the state command for a more discreet, comprehensive investigation and further necessary legal action in line with established child protection procedures.
He strongly urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report incidents of child abuse, domestic violence, and related human rights offenses to nearby stations, reaffirming the command’s unwavering commitment to shielding children and vulnerable groups from all forms of exploitation and violence.
