Deadline for the submission of candidates’ lists for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections has been extended by three days by INEC following appeals from political parties.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the lists and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections by three days.
The commission announced the extension in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna.
According to Haruna, INEC approved the extension by revising the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Elections, shifting the submission deadline from July 11, 2026, to July 14, 2026.
He explained that the decision followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the original timeframe.
Haruna said the extension reflects the commission’s commitment to promoting inclusivity in the electoral process while operating within the provisions of the law.
He urged all political parties to take advantage of the additional three-day window to complete the upload of all required information before the new deadline expires.
