Governor Peter Mbah has inaugurated the Enugu APC Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 elections, urging party members to campaign on government achievements and intensify grassroots mobilisation.

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council in the state, expressing confidence in the party’s prospects in the 2027 general elections and urging members to campaign on the achievements of his administration and the Federal Government.

The inauguration took place on Tuesday at the International Conference Centre in Enugu, with the governor calling on party faithful to intensify grassroots mobilisation and remain committed to the APC.

Mbah urged members to highlight the administration’s record in infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic development, while describing the opposition as lacking substantive alternatives to his government’s policies.

The campaign council comprises 51 directorates, with Mbah serving as chairman. Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly Uchenna Ugwu, APC State Chairman Martin Chukwunweike and Secretary to the State Government Chidiebere Onyia are among the vice chairmen.

An advisory council has also been constituted, bringing together prominent political leaders, former public office holders and other stakeholders. They include former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former Governor of old Anambra State Senator Jim Nwobodo, former Minister of Power Barth Nnaji, former Minister of Information Frank Nweke Jr., businessman Prince Arthur Eze and Senator Chuka Utazi.

Other members include former Chief of the Naval Staff Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (rtd.), former deputy governors Cecilia Ezeilo, Bishop Ralph Nwoye, Sunday Onyebuchi and Okechukwu Itanyi, among other political figures.

Chief Charlie Mbah was appointed Director-General of the campaign council, while Dr. Eric Oluedo will serve as Secretary-General.

Senator Osita Ngwu, Senator Ikeje Asogwa and Senator Kelvin Chukwu were named coordinators for Enugu West, Enugu North and Enugu East senatorial districts, respectively.

Speaking at the event, Governor Mbah said his administration had justified the mandate given to it in 2023, while attributing the availability of increased resources for development projects partly to the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He urged APC members to campaign on the administration’s performance and promised to personally visit all 68 development centres in Enugu State as part of the campaign activities.

The governor also announced plans to visit markets and commission projects across the state’s 260 political wards, particularly Smart Green Schools and Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres.

Mbah cited the 2026 Phillips Consulting State Performance Momentum Index, which ranked Enugu as the fastest-improving state among the 33 states assessed, with a Momentum Score of +1.15.

He also referenced the state’s reported improvement in the ease of doing business, from 36th position out of 37 subnational entities in 2023 to sixth nationally in 2025, according to the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council.

The governor maintained that the achievements recorded by his administration would form a central part of the party’s campaign message.

He also called on APC members to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid, arguing that the Federal Government’s economic policies had helped provide states with additional resources for development.

Mbah highlighted infrastructure projects and other interventions by the Tinubu administration in the South-East, particularly Enugu State, saying the region had benefited from federal projects and strategic appointments despite giving the President limited electoral support in 2023.

Several party leaders and government officials also addressed the gathering, urging members to mobilise support for the APC ahead of the elections.

They included Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, Speaker Uchenna Ugwu, APC Deputy National Chairman (South) Ben Nwoye, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Kingsley Udeh, Senator Osita Ngwu, APC State Chairman Martin Chukwunweike, Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development Ngozi Enih, and former Nigerian Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein Fidelia Njeze.

In his remarks, Campaign Director-General Charlie Mbah thanked the party leadership for the confidence placed in him and his team, pledging to organise a broad-based and coordinated campaign across the state.

He said the campaign would focus on reaching every senatorial district, local government area, ward, community and polling unit through an inclusive, organised and issues-based approach.

The council’s composition also reflects a broad range of responsibilities covering media, mobilisation, security, fundraising, election monitoring, women’s participation, inter-party relations and grassroots engagement.

Barrister Steve Oruruo was appointed campaign spokesperson and Director of the Public Communication Committee, with Dr. Austin Okolie as co-spokesperson and Dr. Malachy Agbo as secretary.

Mazi Uche Anichukwu will lead New Media and Strategic Communication, while Dan Nwomeh will head Mainstream Media. Dr. Collins Ogbu and Dr. Reuben Onyishi were named secretaries of the respective directorates.

Barrister Victor Udeh will oversee the Administration Directorate and the Directorate of Election Planning and Monitoring, while former Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla (rtd.) will chair the Security Directorate. Former Inspector-General of Police Ogbono Onovo (rtd.) was named its secretary.

Other appointments include Minister Kingsley Udeh as head of Government Appointees Coordination, former Speaker Eugene Odoh as head of Inter-Party Affairs, and APC State Woman Leader Esther Edeh as head of Women Mobilisation.

Senator Chuka Utazi will lead Parliamentary Mobilisation, while Senator Ben Collins Ndu will head Contact and Mobilisation.

Additional directorates will oversee welfare, event management, monitoring, works and venue, support groups, creativity and entertainment, and town union coordination.

Nollywood actress Rachael Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, was appointed Director of Creativity and Entertainment, while Chief Arinze Ogbodo will head Town Unions Coordination.

The inauguration marks the formal commencement of the APC’s campaign planning structure in Enugu State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
