Ebonyi State Commissioner for Project Monitoring, Mr. Felix Igboke, has resigned his cabinet position and defected back to the PDP alongside over 10,000 supporters.
The political landscape of Ebonyi State experienced a major tremor on Sunday as Mr. Felix Igboke, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the sitting State Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, officially resigned his cabinet appointment to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Igboke announced his high-profile resignation and subsequent defection during an expansive PDP stakeholders’ and grassroots unification rally held in Isu, within the Onicha Local Government Area of the state.
Striking a massive blow to the ruling party’s regional structure ahead of the 2027 general elections, the former commissioner returned to his political roots alongside a staggering following of over 10,000 supporters.
Characterizing his move as a vital political homecoming, Igboke explained that his foundational political trajectory was built entirely within the PDP infrastructure.
He stated that his exit from Governor Francis Nwifuru’s cabinet was a strategic decision to align with an alternative political platform that is genuinely positioned to drive inclusive grassroots development and protect the collective socioeconomic interests of the populace.
“I am happy to return to the political platform that built me. I served as a councillor, development centre coordinator, and chairman of Onicha Local Government Area under the same party before I joined the APC,” Igboke stated. “I am grateful to the PDP family in Ebonyi State, especially the party’s governorship candidate, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma-Odii, the incoming governor.”
Receiving the defectors, the Ebonyi State Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Chukwuma Igwe, hailed Igboke’s dynamic return as a monumental boost that will aggressively supercharge the party’s momentum going into the 2027 electoral cycle.
Igwe asserted that the PDP has successfully consolidated its grassroots structures across all internal factions and is now structurally primed to reclaim executive power in the next general elections. He added that the influx of thousands of ruling-party defectors serves as an undeniable index of shifting public sentiment and growing voter confidence in the PDP’s alternative governance blueprint.
Further reinforcing the party’s stance, Mr. Eni-Uduma Chima – the PDP candidate for the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency seat for 2027 – remarked that the party is witnessing a rapid, cross-zonal expansion. Chima expressed absolute optimism that this massive influx of heavyweight political actors would seamlessly translate into sweeping legislative and executive victories across Ebonyi State.
The high-stakes event concluded with community leaders, cultural groups, and newly integrated party loyalists from across various councils pledging an uncompromised, unified front to expand the PDP’s operational base from the ward levels up to the state capital ahead of the next election window.
