President Bola Tinubu commends youth support groups for promoting his reform agenda, highlights empowerment programmes and urges peaceful political participation ahead of 2027.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Nigerian youths and support groups for promoting his administration’s policies and mobilising grassroots support, while reaffirming his commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive governance.
Tinubu spoke on Monday at the State House in Abuja during a meeting with members of the City Boy Movement and other youth support organisations, including Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria.
The President praised the groups for supporting his administration during the implementation of major economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, currency reforms and changes to the tax system.
He acknowledged the challenges associated with the reforms, noting that young Nigerians had remained involved in national affairs despite the difficulties.
Tinubu particularly commended the City Boy Movement for establishing a grassroots network and community outreach initiatives, including City Boys Care, which he said provided opportunities to engage with young people and understand their concerns.
He also praised Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria, for communicating the administration’s policies and activities to Nigerians.
The President said the participation of young people remained important to the country’s future, adding that they should have opportunities to contribute to governance and national development.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth development, Tinubu highlighted initiatives aimed at expanding access to education financing, credit and digital skills.
The programmes include the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the Credit Corporation of Nigeria (CREDICORP) and the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.
According to him, the initiatives are intended to give young Nigerians access to resources, opportunities and skills needed to participate meaningfully in the economy and compete globally.
He also called for greater involvement of young people in decision-making and public service, stressing that their aspirations should be reflected in the country’s development priorities.
President Tinubu paid tribute to his son, Seyi Tinubu, patron of the City Boy Movement, for establishing and organising the group.
He urged Seyi and other young Nigerians to deepen their commitment to public service, community engagement and leadership.
The President also encouraged his supporters to participate lawfully and peacefully in political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections. He urged them to mobilise eligible voters and encourage citizens to obtain and use their Permanent Voter Cards.
He stressed that political participation should be based on ideas, constructive dialogue and peaceful mobilisation rather than violence.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima said the Tinubu administration’s decision to address longstanding economic challenges had helped avert a deeper crisis that could have resulted from delaying critical reforms.
He acknowledged the economic pressures experienced by Nigerians but expressed confidence that the reforms would create better livelihoods and expand opportunities over time.
Shettima also commended Tinubu’s approach to political cooperation and inclusive leadership. He praised First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her contributions to national development and public service.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, commended the City Boy Movement for its organisational structure and commitment to national development.
Abbas urged the group to incorporate legislative achievements of the Tinubu administration into its artificial intelligence-driven platform to provide Nigerians with information about government policies and activities.
Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau also praised the movement’s use of technology and artificial intelligence to organise data and coordinate grassroots mobilisation.
He encouraged other organisations to adopt similar technology-driven approaches.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, commended Tinubu for his attention to youth development and mentorship.
In his address, Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, said the organisation had registered 4.8 million members in its database.
Shoga said the movement, which operates under the slogan “Inform, Engage, Inspire,” was committed to promoting patriotism, encouraging responsible civic participation and communicating the administration’s policies across the country.
He said the group intended to develop young Nigerians into leaders while supporting national development.
Similarly, Director-General of Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria, Ahmed Bala, said his organisation was targeting 10 million votes for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Bala said the group believed the administration’s reforms had placed the country on the right path and pledged continued support for its programmes.
The meeting was attended by members of the Federal Executive Council, National Assembly members, government officials, traditional rulers and youth supporters.
The gathering formed part of efforts by the President’s supporters to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and encourage youth participation in political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
