The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has awarded a university scholarship to Victor Obasi, the highest-scoring candidate from Ebonyi State in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The scholarship offer was announced in a statement issued by Umahi’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki.

According to the statement, the minister extended the scholarship after learning of Obasi’s exceptional performance in the examination.

Obasi is a pioneer student of King David Gifted Academy, a specialised academic institution established and inaugurated by Umahi during his tenure as governor of Ebonyi State.

The statement noted that the minister was delighted by the student’s achievement and offered the scholarship as a gesture of appreciation and encouragement for academic excellence.

It further explained that the school was founded with the vision of creating a centre for exceptional learning and nurturing future leaders through quality education.

Over the years, the institution has gained recognition for producing high-performing students and maintaining strong academic standards.

Obasi scored 356 in the 2026 UTME, emerging as the highest scorer from Ebonyi State and placing himself among the country’s top-performing candidates.
