FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has hailed the Supreme Court’s latest ruling as the final resolution of the PDP leadership dispute, asserting that the party is now fully united and legally stabilized.
ABUJA – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully emerged from its prolonged internal crisis as a single, united entity.
Speaking at a press conference at his Guzape residence on Thursday, Wike stated that a decisive ruling by the Supreme Court has finally extinguished all claims to parallel leadership structures within the party.
Wike emphasized that the apex court’s decision to dismiss appeals challenging previous lower court judgments effectively validates the party’s convention and the legitimacy of its current leadership. According to the Minister, this judicial outcome marks the end of “so-called factions,” reinforcing the party’s stability under the rule of law.
During the briefing, Wike addressed rumors regarding the status of the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu. He dismissed suggestions that the Supreme Court had affirmed any suspension against Anyanwu, clarifying that such an issue was not a subject for determination before the court.
He cautioned political actors against interpreting the law to suit personal agendas, stressing that all party activities must strictly follow the established constitution and electoral regulations.
Addressing the internal fallout of the crisis, the Minister characterized those who defected from the party during the period of uncertainty as “electoral liabilities.” While he noted that the door remains open for those who left out of genuine confusion to return to a now-stabilized party, he remained critical of those he deemed politically insignificant.
On the subject of burgeoning alliances among opposition figures, Wike expressed skepticism toward coalitions that lack a foundation of constructive engagement. He asserted that the PDP’s current approach is focused on being a credible and stable alternative rather than engaging in “opposition for opposition’s sake.”
Wike concluded by framing the judicial pronouncement as a victory for internal democracy and the Nigerian democratic process at large. He maintained that with the legal hurdles now cleared, the PDP is positioned to play its role effectively as Nigeria’s foremost opposition platform. He urged all aggrieved parties to respect the finality of the court’s decision and commit to the party’s unified path forward.
