Arrest operation in Ogun led to the capture of four suspected cultists accused of armed robbery, with police recovering a pistol, axe, charms and a stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max.
ABEOKUTA, Nigeria – A major arrest operation by the Ogun State Police Command has led to the capture of four suspected cultists over alleged armed robbery in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta.
According to police, the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Ilaro Division following a complaint lodged on April 16 at about 11:30 p.m.
Babaseyi said the complainant reported that earlier the same day, at about 1:00 p.m., the suspects and two accomplices still at large allegedly stormed his residence.
Police said the group assaulted the victim, threatened him with an axe and robbed him of his mobile phone, an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Following the report, officers launched a swift operation that resulted in the arrest of the four suspects.
During the operation, police recovered one locally made pistol, an axe, suspected charms and the stolen iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The command said the suspects remain in police custody while efforts continue to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.
Babaseyi added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism during the operation.
He reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
Ojajuni assured residents that all criminal elements would be decisively dealt with in line with the law.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through official police emergency lines.
The police command said public cooperation remains vital in sustaining security and supporting future arrest operations against criminal networks.
