Governor Peter Mbah has commissioned Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries Limited in Trans-Ekulu, a multi-billion-naira investment expected to boost local drug manufacturing, create jobs and strengthen healthcare delivery.
Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Mbah has commissioned Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, a multi-billion-naira pharmaceutical company located in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, in a move expected to strengthen local drug manufacturing, create jobs and improve healthcare delivery.
The commissioning took place on Thursday, with the Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors, Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (Rtd), commending Mbah for creating an investment-friendly environment that supports private-sector growth.
Madueke described Anchorage as a legacy project designed to generate employment, develop local talent and contribute to economic development in Enugu State and beyond.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mbah said the facility represented more than a business investment, describing it as a commitment to public health, economic growth and the future of young people.

The governor congratulated the company’s founder, board and management, noting that establishing a manufacturing enterprise required significant investment, determination and confidence in the state’s economic prospects.
Mbah said the new pharmaceutical facility would create employment opportunities, provide internship placements and facilitate skills transfer while supporting healthcare delivery across the state.
He disclosed that the government would explore commercial partnerships with Anchorage to supply medicines to its central medical stores and primary healthcare facilities.
The governor noted that the state was constructing 260 Type-2 primary healthcare centres, which would require reliable supplies of essential medicines to operate effectively.
“We are interested in made-in-Enugu, and that’s what you’re doing here,” he said.

Mbah reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with private businesses, stressing that the government’s responsibility extended beyond providing an enabling environment to building mutually beneficial partnerships that support investment and economic development.
He added that private capital remained central to the state’s growth strategy, particularly efforts to create employment opportunities and prevent skilled young people from leaving Enugu in search of better prospects elsewhere.
Earlier, Madueke described Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries as the practical expression of his longstanding belief that private enterprise could create jobs, expand economic opportunities and improve prosperity.
The former Chief of the Naval Staff and former military governor of old Anambra and Imo States praised Mbah for developing a business-friendly environment and infrastructure capable of supporting sustainable investments.
He said Anchorage would prioritise product quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance and sound corporate governance.
Madueke also acknowledged the role of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in regulating pharmaceutical products and safeguarding public health.
He expressed confidence that the company would contribute to economic development in Enugu State, the South-East and Nigeria as a whole.

In his closing remarks, the company’s Managing Director, Engr. Chima Madueke, said Anchorage was established around the principles of quality and wellness, reflected in its slogan, “Anchored in Quality, Committed to Wellness.”
He disclosed that the company had obtained the necessary approvals and clearances from NAFDAC and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), reaffirming its commitment to quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
According to him, the company aims to contribute to efforts to tackle fake and substandard medicines in Nigeria.
He added that Anchorage was open to supplying medicines directly to hospitals, healthcare institutions and pharmacies.
The commissioning of Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries highlights the growing role of private-sector investment in the Mbah administration’s efforts to diversify Enugu State’s economy and expand its industrial base.
The facility is expected to support local pharmaceutical production while creating opportunities for employment, professional training and skills development.
Mbah assured investors of continued government support to improve the business environment, encourage industrial expansion and enhance returns on investment.
The company’s long-term contribution to healthcare delivery will depend on its production capacity, product quality, regulatory compliance and ability to provide reliable supplies of affordable medicines to healthcare providers and consumers.
