Revival efforts in the PDP gathered pace as the party’s National Chairman said it was ready to conduct credible primaries nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections.

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is entering a new phase of political revival and is prepared to conduct credible primaries at all levels ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The assurance came from the party’s National Chairman, Abdulraman Mohammed, during a meeting of party leaders and stakeholders.

Mohammed, whose leadership is backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said the PDP was committed to transparent and inclusive internal elections that would produce candidates acceptable to Nigerians.

He commended members for their loyalty and commitment, especially during the party’s recent crisis.

According to him, discipline, loyalty and belief in due process helped preserve the party and reposition it for a stronger future.

“Today, we gather not as a party in distress, but as a strong political institution firmly focused on the future of PDP,” he said.

Mohammed stated that the party had successfully navigated its internal challenges and was now aligned with the Constitution, the Electoral Act and all relevant guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“The era of uncertainty is behind us. The era of strategy, consolidation and electoral preparation has begun,” he added.

He said the PDP had placed itself on the roadmap for nationwide primaries and would ensure compliance with existing laws and democratic best practices.

“We have determined to produce candidates who reflect the will of our members and the aspirations of Nigerians,” he said.

Mohammed urged party members to remain united and place collective interests above personal ambitions as the revival process continues.

Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, also pledged support for the party leadership.

He called on members to focus on strengthening internal processes, discipline and party cohesion.

According to him, the success of the party’s recent national convention must translate into deeper unity and reconciliation across all levels.

“There is no room for exclusion. There should only be room for inclusion, understanding and collective progress,” he said.

Ohuabunwa also praised the ongoing membership e-registration exercise, describing it as an important tool for building a transparent and data-driven political structure.

Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, declared that the PDP crisis was over and said it was time to rebuild the party into a stronger force.

He maintained that reports from the e-registration exercise showed that the PDP remained a dominant political platform in Nigeria.

Moro also reassured members of the commitment of PDP senators to support the rebuilding process.

Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, congratulated members of the new National Working Committee and pledged the loyalty of PDP lawmakers to the party.
