Israeli authorities have filed an indictment against a woman accused of spying for Iran, following a joint security operation that uncovered alleged intelligence activities targeting sensitive sites.

The Israel State Attorney’s Office has filed an indictment against an Israeli woman accused of carrying out espionage activities on behalf of Iran.

The suspect, Shomou Abed, an Arab Israeli from Nazareth, was arrested in March during a joint operation involving the Israel Police and the Shin Bet.

According to investigators, Abed had been in contact with an Iranian handler since October 2025 and allegedly undertook multiple assignments in exchange for payment.

Authorities said the tasks included photographing sensitive locations such as military installations and the Haifa oil refineries, as well as providing information related to a former security official.

The indictment marks a significant development in Israel’s ongoing efforts to counter alleged foreign intelligence operations within its borders.

Security agencies have not disclosed further operational details, but emphasised that the case underscores the risks posed by external espionage networks targeting critical infrastructure and national security assets.
