A bird strike has forced United Nigeria Airlines to ground one of its CRJ-900 aircraft, disrupting flight schedules while safety inspections are carried out.

ABUJA, Nigeria – United Nigeria Airlines has grounded one of its CRJ-900 aircraft following a bird strike incident that occurred during landing operations.

The airline disclosed the development in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Chibuike Uloka, in Lagos.

According to the statement, the incident involved Flight UN0579 en route from Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, with the bird strike occurring during landing on Tuesday evening.

In response, the affected aircraft has been withdrawn from service to undergo detailed technical inspections and necessary maintenance in line with aviation safety standards.

The airline noted that the precautionary measure may lead to disruptions across its flight network, as some services could be delayed or rescheduled.

“Safety remains our highest priority,” the airline stated, apologising to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the incident.

United Nigeria Airlines further revealed that this is the fifth bird strike involving its aircraft since January, adding that each case has been handled in full compliance with regulatory and operational guidelines.

The carrier reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict safety standards and ensuring operational reliability, while taking steps to minimise disruptions and meet passenger expectations.
