Police in Ondo State have arrested a 21-year-old suspect over the alleged assault and killing of an elderly woman in Iboropa Akoko.

The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has arrested a 21-year-old suspect, Alabi Anthony, over the alleged assault and killing of an elderly woman in Iboropa Akoko.

The victim, identified as Olaseni Veronica, was reportedly attacked on Friday in the community.

Police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said detectives launched an investigation after receiving credible intelligence, which led to tracking the victim’s missing phone and the subsequent arrest of the suspect.

He stated that the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation.

Jimoh said the command condemned the act and assured the public that justice would be pursued.

According to him, the case has been transferred to the command headquarters in Akure for further investigation and prosecution.

The police commissioner also urged residents to promptly report suspicious incidents, noting that timely information helps effective investigations, especially in cases of sudden or unnatural deaths.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety and bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.
