Kano State Government has provided cash and food assistance to families of 16 hunters lynched in Edo State.
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has provided financial and food assistance to families of 16 hunters who were lynched by a mob in Uromi, Edo State.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Abdullahi Waiya, led a government delegation to Bunkure Local Government Area, where N300,000 was presented to each of the 16 bereaved families. He also announced that 13 survivors received N200,000 each alongside food items.
Waiya said the visit was directed by Governor Yusuf to assess the condition of the affected families and fulfil earlier commitments made to them.
He explained that although the governor had previously pledged support, the assistance experienced delays.
The commissioner added that the state government remained committed to ensuring that compensation earlier promised by the Edo State Government would be paid.
According to him, bank accounts had already been opened for the families to facilitate payment once the process is completed.
Waiya noted that the Kano government would also consider further intervention, particularly in supporting the educational needs of children of the victims.
In his remarks, the District Head of Bunkure, Aminu Umaru, commended the governor’s intervention, describing it as compassionate and timely.
He also offered prayers for continued guidance and success for the governor.
