Medical doctors in Kogi State have commended Governor Ahmed Ododo for implementing a N300,000 monthly allowance for doctors working in state-owned hospitals, describing the policy as a decisive step toward strengthening healthcare delivery.
The commendation came from the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Kogi Specialist Hospital (KSSH), Lokoja, in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
The ARD President, Dr David Omeiza, congratulated the governor on his second anniversary in office, praising his administration’s commitment to healthcare reforms, particularly the introduction of the Doctors’ Interventional Allowance.
According to Omeiza, the allowance, which took effect in October 2025, is already yielding positive outcomes, including improved patient care, better operational efficiency, and a stronger public health response across state-owned hospitals.
He noted that the policy was designed to curb the ongoing brain drain in the health sector, popularly known as the “Japa syndrome,” by retaining medical professionals and attracting skilled practitioners to Kogi State, especially in rural areas.
“The allowance has significantly boosted morale among doctors and enhanced service delivery in our facilities,” the association stated.
The ARD urged Governor Ododo to sustain his focus on healthcare development, stressing that continued investment in the sector would position Kogi as a competitive healthcare destination.
The association reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the state government to achieve healthcare excellence and expand access to quality medical services.
Governor Ododo, who was sworn into office on January 27, 2024, approved the N300,000 monthly allowance in October 2025 as part of broader healthcare initiatives. These include the state health insurance scheme covering over 76,000 beneficiaries, comprising local government workers, pensioners, and students.
