ABUJA, Jan. 26 – Tinubu Türkiye – President Bola Tinubu will today depart Abuja for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, as part of efforts to deepen diplomatic, economic, and strategic relations between Nigeria and the Eurasian nation.

The planned visit was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, who said the trip is aimed at strengthening cordial relations between Nigeria and Türkiye while expanding cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation, and aviation.

According to Onanuga, President Tinubu’s visit will feature high-level political and diplomatic engagements with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, focusing on shared interests in finance, communications, trade, and investment.

“The programme includes strategic discussions between senior officials of both countries, as well as the signing of Memoranda of Understanding in key sectors,” the presidential spokesman stated.

He explained that the MoUs to be signed will cover scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military cooperation, and diplomatic protocol.

Onanuga further disclosed that a Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will be held during the visit, bringing together investors from both countries to explore opportunities for mutual economic growth.

President Erdoğan had earlier paid an official visit to Nigeria from October 19 to 20, 2021, a trip that significantly strengthened bilateral ties between both countries.

Members of President Tinubu’s entourage include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.

Others are the Minister of Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

President Tinubu is expected to return to the country at the conclusion of the state visit.
