AI and humans: AI Will Not Replace Humans

Prof. Vincent Onodugo says AI and humans will work together, urging Nigerian universities to integrate AI literacy into teaching, research and entrepreneurship.

The growing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) should be viewed as an opportunity for collaboration rather than a threat to human relevance, Prof. Vincent Onodugo, immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Business Management, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, has said.

Onodugo made the observation while delivering a keynote address at an academic event at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) recently, dismissing fears that AI would take over jobs and render humans irrelevant.

“AI cannot replace human beings. Rather, it is about AI and human beings working together and complementing each other for human progress and development,” he said.

The professor of management maintained that human creativity, judgement and leadership would remain essential even as AI transformed workplaces and professional practices.

“Human beings will always be masters and creators while AI will be servants and enablers. The future is not about competition between man and machine, but collaboration,” he added.

Onodugo urged students, researchers and business managers to embrace AI as a tool for improving productivity, innovation and decision-making rather than fear its growing influence.

He said organisations that effectively combined human intelligence, creativity and emotional intelligence with AI’s speed and efficiency would be better positioned to navigate the changing world of work.

The academic also called on Nigerian universities to integrate AI literacy into teaching, research and entrepreneurship training to prepare graduates for the evolving global economy.

His remarks highlight the growing need for educational institutions and businesses to equip people with the skills required to use AI responsibly and effectively, while retaining human oversight in decision-making.
