Nkanu West Chairman, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, has assured newly deployed corps members of safety, accommodation and financial assistance as they begin their primary assignments in the local government area.
The Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Council, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, has assured newly deployed National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of safety, accommodation and financial support as they commence their primary assignments in the area.
Ogbodo gave the assurance while receiving the corps members, who recently completed their orientation camp and were posted to Nkanu West for the next phase of their national service.
Welcoming the new arrivals, the chairman urged them to feel at home and integrate peacefully into their host communities. He advised them to respect local cultures, traditions and customs while maintaining cordial relationships with residents across the various communities where they would serve.
The chairman further pledged that his administration would provide accommodation for the corps members throughout their stay in the local government area. He also offered financial assistance to help them purchase food and meet some of their immediate needs.
The gesture is aimed at easing the corps members’ transition from orientation camp to their places of primary assignment and creating a supportive environment for their service year.
In their separate remarks, the Local Government Inspector, Mrs. Glory Chime, and the Chief Inspector, Mr. Onyemachi Festus, commended Ogbodo for his support and consideration for corps members since assuming office.
They encouraged the newly deployed members to remain disciplined, hardworking and committed to their responsibilities. They also urged them to contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities and uphold the ideals of the NYSC scheme.
The National Youth Service Corps programme includes primary assignments and community development activities designed to enable participants contribute to national development. According to the NYSC’s official service-year guidelines, corps members are expected to use their skills and abilities to support the needs of their host communities.
The reception underscores the Nkanu West Local Government Administration’s commitment to supporting corps members and promoting grassroots development through their service.
With assurances of accommodation, financial assistance and a peaceful working environment, the newly deployed corps members are expected to settle into their assignments and contribute to the social and economic development of Nkanu West.
