Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has brokered a reconciliation between Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Abubakar Bichi, urging the two APC leaders and their supporters to end hostilities and unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has brokered a reconciliation between Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, and House of Representatives member Abubakar Kabir Bichi following a political disagreement between the two All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders.
The reconciliation meeting, held in Abuja and lasting about two hours, was aimed at resolving their differences and strengthening party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement issued by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at the Kano State Government House, Yusuf urged the two politicians and their supporters to put aside their grievances and prioritise the collective interest of the APC.
The governor emphasised that unity, mutual understanding and cooperation among party leaders were essential to strengthening the party ahead of the elections.
Yusuf called on supporters of Barau and Bichi to stop trading insults, making inflammatory statements and engaging in character assassination capable of worsening divisions within the party.
“Political disagreements are part of democratic engagement, but such differences should not be allowed to undermine the unity, stability and progress of the party,” the governor said, according to the statement.
He maintained that internal disputes should be resolved through dialogue, consultation and mutual respect rather than public confrontations.
The governor also urged the two leaders and their supporters to work together for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
“Henceforth, I do not expect any of your supporters to come out and abuse one another. We must put a stop to these unnecessary distractions,” Yusuf said.
He expressed confidence that the reconciliation would strengthen cooperation among APC members and improve the party’s ability to coordinate its activities ahead of the polls.
Barau represents Kano North Senatorial District in the Senate and serves as Deputy President of the Senate, while Bichi represents Bichi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and chairs the House Committee on Appropriations.
Both lawmakers cautioned their supporters against actions capable of fuelling further disagreements within the APC in Kano State.
They also reaffirmed their loyalty and commitment to the party’s success and expressed appreciation to Yusuf for intervening in the dispute.
The Kano State Government said the governor urged all party stakeholders to place the APC’s collective interests above personal differences as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
The reconciliation forms part of efforts to strengthen cohesion among APC leaders in Kano State ahead of the next general elections.
Although Barau and Bichi have pledged to discourage hostility among their supporters, the public statement did not specify the underlying causes of their disagreement or outline formal terms for resolving it.
The durability of the reconciliation will depend on whether both political camps sustain the commitment to dialogue and avoid actions that could reignite tensions within the Kano APC.
Governor Yusuf, meanwhile, has called on party members to maintain unity and focus on their shared political objectives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
