Türkiye has expressed condolences to Nigeria over the NAF 931 crash in Ondo State that killed all 25 people on board, as the country observes three days of national mourning.
The Government of Türkiye has expressed condolences to Nigeria following the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash in Ondo State that claimed 25 lives.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed the condolences in an official statement, expressing sadness over the loss of lives in the military aircraft crash.
“We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident, and to the people of Nigeria,” the ministry said.
The NAF 931 aircraft, an ATR-42, was on a routine mission from Benin City, Edo State, to Lagos when it crashed in the Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Government Area, Ondo State, on Monday, October 5.
The Nigerian Air Force subsequently confirmed that 25 people were on board the aircraft, comprising five crew members and 20 passengers. It also said no survivors had been found.
The confirmation corrected an earlier figure of 32 people that had been reported shortly after the crash, with the initial number attributed to information available on the day of the incident. The NAF’s later official manifest established the number of people aboard at 25.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared three days of national mourning in honour of the victims and directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast nationwide.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Türkiye’s condolence message adds to international expressions of sympathy following the tragedy as Nigerian authorities continue efforts to establish what caused the fatal accident.
